Kyrgyz ex-president admits personally shooting at SWAT troops during arrest attempt

YEREVAN, AUGUST 8, ARMENPRESS. Kyrgyzstan’s former president Almazbek Atambayev has admitted that he personally opened gunfire at the SWAT troops who stormed his mansion in an attempt to arrest the former leader who is suspected in corruption.

“My supporters were unarmed, I personally opened fire during the storm,” Atambayev told reporters.

Atambayev also said he didn’t intend to hit the troops when firing. He said he is willing to cooperate in freeing those special forces troops who are currently held hostage by his supporters, TASS reports.
