YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 27, ARMENPRESS. Armenia is committed to the exclusively peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship taking into account the current realities in the region and based on the fundamental principles of the international law, in particular, the peoples’ right to self-determination, Speaker of Parliament Ararat Mirzoyan said in his remarks at the plenary session of the Federation Councilof the Russian Federal Assembly in Moscow, reports Armenpress.

“We highly appreciate Russia’s role as an OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair country. I have to state with regret that despite the current high-level allied relations between our countries, as well as the consistent efforts of the Russian side for the peaceful settlement of the NK conflict, some of our Russian partners yesterday literally participated in an accentuated anti-Armenian campaign in Baku which contradicts the spirit of preserving peace and stability in the region. Moreover, the participation of some members of the Armenian-Russian inter-parliamentary commission to that campaign creates a fair concern”, he said.

The Speaker noted that one of the key directions of the Armenian-Russian cooperation is to ensure peace and maintain stability in the world in general and the South Caucasian region in particular. “We oppose the attempts of solving the conflicts through military means and welcome the initiatives aimed at peace and stability in our universe”, he said. In this regard the Speaker of Parliament highlighted Armenia’s step on sending a humanitarian group of specialists to Syria. Ararat Mirzoyan thanked the Russian side for assisting Armenia in recent years to deliver a humanitarian aid to Syria.

Touching upon the Armenian-Russian relations, the Speaker said they are of a unique nature. “Strengthening our relations and overcoming all possible obstacles on this path are among our foreign policy priorities. This concept has also been reflected in the Armenian government’s 5-year Action Plan adopted by the Parliament recently, which is the vivid proof of the above mentioned”, Ararat Mirzoyan said.
