Armenia, Russia to develop partnership in education and science

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 5, ARMENPRESS. Armenia’s Minister of Education and Science Arayik Harutyunyan has held a meeting with Russia’s Ambassador Sergei Kopyrkin and Yerevan-based Russian Science and Culture Center (RosSotrudnichestvo) director Sergei Ribinskiy.

During the meeting the sides discussed prospects for deepening Armenian-Russian partnership in education and science, according to a press release of the ministry.

Harutyunyan attached importance to the constructive cooperation in education within the framework of the Armenia-Russia inter-governmental commission, expressing hope that the upcoming Moscow sitting of the commission will boost the development of relations in the educational sector. Ribinskiy praised the current level of the Armenian-Russian cooperation and expressed readiness to continue effective partnership in the field of education and science.

The officials also discussed a number of issues related to the activities of classrooms teaching Russian language in Armenia. In this context, at the request of the ambassador minister Harutyunyan touched upon the single examination of Armenian language, emphasizing that due to peculiarities of teaching Armenian language a certain timeframe is defined for foreign students.

The joint competition of the Armenian ministry and the Russian Science and Culture Center for the 2019-2020 academic year for students seeking to enroll at Russian higher educational institutions was also discussed.

In this context, the Russian side also expressed readiness to allocate certain seats in Russian universities also for training of Russian language and literature teachers of Armenian public education institutions.
