Uruguay’s National Institution for Human Rights concerned over Azerbaijani ‘black list’

YEREVAN, JUNE 20, ARMENPRESS. The National Institution for Human Rights of Uruguay (INDDHH) sent a letter to the country’s chancellor Rodolfo Nin Novoaexpressing concern over the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s decision to include human rights advocate Oscar Lópezin the ‘black list’ for the fact that the latter has worked as an observer during the constitutional referendum in Artsakh, Prensa Armenia reports.

“The National Institution for Human Rights is concerned over the impacts the Azerbaijani government’s this resolution can have on Oscar López’ rights, in particular, in terms of freedom of speech and free movement. The Institution asks the chancellor to take necessary steps to quickly stop the violations of rights of Uruguay’s citizen”, the letter reads.

Earlier human rights advocate Oscar López condemned Azerbaijan for including him and a group of other figures in the ‘black list’. He announced that “Nagorno Karabakh is a country with an Armenian population which is independent for already 25 years by the decision of its people. It is a democratic, republican state with an institutionalized framework of rights, ombudsman and democracy mechanism which really works”.
