Parliament adopts communities consolidation program at first reading

YEREVAN, JUNE 8, ARMENPRESS. Armenia’s Parliament adopted the bill on making changes and amendments in the law on ‘Administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia’, with 57 votes in favor, and 23 against, reports Armenpress.

Before the voting head of ‘Yelk’ faction Nikol Pashinyan said as long as they have no clear picture on what results the testing programs on community consolidation gave, they will not participate in the voting.

Vice-Speaker Mikayel Melkumyan from ‘Tsarukyan’ bloc said their faction will vote against the bill since they oppose making such a revolutionary step for Armenia without thorough analysis.

Under the new program of communities consolidation, 328 communities of Armenia’s various provinces will be merged as a result of which 34 communities will be formed.
