YEREVAN, JUNE 8, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian side has one expectation from the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs at this stage over the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, which is achieving the implementation of the Vienna and St. Petersburg agreements, Armenia’s deputy FM Shavarsh Kocharyan said after today’s Cabinet meeting.
“We have one expectation, and this is no news. This expectation is the following: the mediators must finally achieve the implementation of the Vienna and St. Petersburg agreements. Today this is what is being talked about and it is no coincidence that it was in Vienna were the approach was developed that until an atmosphere of trust forms between the sides, talking about progress in the negotiations process is impossible. And a component part, a necessary but insufficient condition of this atmosphere of trust is that no gunfire and provocations happen. We have to see this result, the people must see that they aren’t shooting, that no provocations are made, this will be the result. Essentially, this is what Vienna and St. Petersburg demand”, Kocharyan said.
Speaking about rumors on a possible resumption of war, Kocharyan noted that these aren’t new.
“For many years, it is Baku that’s trying to swing this sword, and takes steps in the line of contact which escalate the situation. Of course, first of all the mediating states are being concerned with all of this, because all three co-chairing countries are permanent members of the UN security council, and are responsible for peace anywhere across the world, especially in the zone where they act as mediators”, he said.
From this perspective, Kocharyan found these rumors to be natural and mentioned that they are also an alarm of the danger, therefore the Co-Chairs are trying to take steps to prevent de-stabilization, which in Kocharyan’s words, no one needs in the region.
