YEREVAN, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. Vice-Speaker of Armenia’s Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov on June 7 held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Armenia Timur Urazayev, press service of the Parliament told Armenpress.
During the meeting the sides discussed the current situation in the region by attaching importance to stability and peace in regional countries.
Sharmazanov highly appreciated the Armenian-Kazakh relations and attached importance to the further development of inter-parliamentary ties and the role of friendship groups in this sense. In this context he said Armenia-Kazakhstan parliamentary friendship group will be formed soon and assured that it will significantly contribute to developing the parliamentary cooperation.
The Vice-Speaker also talked about the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, stating that both Armenia and Artsakh see the conflict’s settlement exclusively through peaceful negotiation means.
“Without reasonable mutual concessions, it is impossible to reach the conflict’s settlement, meanwhile Azerbaijan till now is not ready to that mutual concessions”, Sharmazanov said.
He also touched upon the issue of Turkey’s closure of the border with Armenia and considered unacceptable having closed borders in the 21st century. According to him, it is a serious threat for the region.
The Parliament’s Vice-Speaker also attached importance to cooperation in international structures – CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly, CSTO PA, calling the works of parliamentary delegations of Armenia and Kazakhstan at these platforms as constructive. He said the membership to the EAEU provides new opportunities to both countries to develop economic ties.
In his turn the Kazakh Ambassador highly appreciated the parliamentarians’ contribution in developing the inter-state relations.
Timur Urazayev once again reaffirmed that Kazakhstan is in favor of the peaceful settlement of the NK conflict and supports the activity of the OSCE Minsk Group.
Commenting on the April 2 parliamentary election in Armenia, the Ambassador said the Kazakh observers highly appreciated the elections.
At the meeting issues relating to the activity of Armenian community in Kazakhstan were discussed. The Ambassador assured that Armenians are actively engaged in Kazakhstan’s public and political life.
