Hovhannes Chekijyan bestowed Malachia Ormanian Gold Medal in Istanbul

YEREVAN, MAY 16, ARMENPRESS. Hovhannes Chekijyan, People’s Artist of USSR, conductor, principal conductor and artistic director of the national academic choir of Armenia was bestowed with Patriarch Malachia Ormanian Gold Medal.

The culture ministry told ARMENPRESS the maestro was invited to his birthplace – Istanbul, where he was awarded the Gold Medal in the St. Vardanants Church.

The medal was bestowed to him by Vardanants Choir President of the Armenian Patriarchate of Istanbul Archimandrite Tatul Anushavan.

Chekijyan has been living in Armenia since 1961.
