EU announces launch of 1.5 million Euro grant scheme in Armenia

YEREVAN, APRIL 10, ARMENPRESS. Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski announced the launch of 1.5 million Euro grant scheme aimed at reinforcing civil society in Armenia and providing civil society organizations with alternative sources of financing, Armenpress reports.

The EU Delegation initiated two grant schemes one of which is the abovementioned program. The total amount of the two programs is 4 million 400 thousand Euros.

Ambassador Piotr Świtalski hopes civil society organizations will be interested in the program.

“First of all we want to strengthen the civil society capacity and to enshrine the commitments existing in EU-Armenia cooperation agenda. We want to carry out control, monitoring of our programs in Armenia, in particular, the talk concerns the budget support programs. We also want that the cooperation with civil society will lead to such a situation where the provision of funds will be spent correctly and efficiently, Armenia’s people will fully understand how they are spent”, the EU Ambassador said.

He stated that the EU Delegation to Armenia will make efforts aimed at developing various fields. “Our goal is to present concrete programs, various public initiatives directed towards healthcare, healthy lifestyle, public transport, environment protection and other fields. We believe that these directions are very important so that Armenia, by using the EU assistance, will be able to promote good values related to nutrition, road safety, recycling and etc”, Piotr Świtalski said.

The EU is looking for innovative projects to make Armenia healthier, safer, cleaner and more sustainable. The global objective of this call for proposals is to finance a number of civil society initiatives aimed at enhancing the role of civil society in promoting EU-Armenia cooperation and monitoring reforms and increasing public accountability in areas covered by the EU-Armenia agreements. The call for proposal will complement the ongoing capacity building and re-granting programmes: (i) STRONG Civil Society Organisations for Stronger Armenia, (ii) Commitment to Constructive Dialogue, (iii) CSO 2.0 and (iv) Community development through social entrepreneurship. This call will also complement the ongoing direct support to Civil Society Organization (CSO) via 30 grants contracts.
