YEREVAN, DECEMBER 15, ARMENPRESS. Deputy head of the Meteorological Center of Hydromet Service Mr. Gagik Surenyan says frost/freezing cold weather is expected from December 18.
As of 07:00, the entire territory of Armenia is covered in snow. Most snowfalls occurred in the “Kare” Lake part of Mount Aragats, with 100cm snow. In Jermuk and Dilijan snowfalls are measured with a depth of 40 and 38 cm respectively. In Yerevan the snowfall was measured at 10-17cm.
The ministry of emergency situations reports as of 09:00 the Sotk-Karvajar, Saravan-Zanger, Amasia-Gyumri, Gyumri-Bavra, Gyumri-Vanadzor highways have been shut down due to bad weather conditions. The Vardenyats Pass and Bavra checkpoint have also been shut down.
The ministry told ARMENPRESS the highways of Spitak, Dilijan, Tigranashen, Jajur-Lusaghbyur, Alagyaz-Tsilkar, Mastara-Lanjik, Ashotsk, Amasia and all highways of Syunik and Kotayq province are difficult to pass.
The Saravan-Zanger highway is partly covered in clear ice.
Snowfalls are currently observed across the highways of Syunik, Tavush, Ararat, Kotayk, Armavir, Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor, Jermuk, Yelpin and Sisian-Zanger.
The Shirak province is currently in a blizzard.
The Georgian authorities said the Stepantsminda-Lars highway is closed for all kinds of vehicles.
