Bill criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial to be discussed in French Senate

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS. The bill criminalizing the denial of Armenian Genocide will be discussed in the Upper House (Senate) of the French Parliament in the upcoming days, French Alfortville city Mayor, Vice-Chairman of Armenia-France Friendship Group of the Upper House Luc Carvounas said, reports “Armenpress”.

“Our political force will vote in favor of the bill. As you know, after the previous vote a Special Commission was established which made amendments in that draft. I can say those who present the opposite view over the draft, they speak more in terms of law, not of politics. They are actually the same comments which were presented in 2002”, the Mayor said.

He recalled that President Hollande promised during his visit in Armenia that the bill will be adopted.

“I as a parliamentarian can assure that I will vote in favor of the bill. We have long-term friendly relations with Armenia, for years we have worked over the issue of the Armenian Genocide, and I cannot imagine that we will be distracted from that same path”, he said.

Speaking about the Turk-Azerbaijani lobby he said it actively works, but it doesn’t hinder the Parliamentarians’ works.

“Our role is to be able to make them understand that they didn’t choose the right path”, he said.
