President Sargsyan considers irreversible past 25 years’ achievements

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 21, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan considers irreversible the achievements of the past 25 years, and the country has moved towards the right direction.

During his speech delivered at the military parade dedicated to Armenia’s 25th Independence Day, the President said the Armenian people’s formula of moving forward is very simple: work , work and work.

“A quarter century ago on this day we made our choice with referendum ballots, but we all know that we have made that choice earlier in our hearts and our collective memory. We have selected the freedom still at a time of Hayk patriarch, we are committed to that choice. Today in the 21st century, the weapons have changed, but we haven’t changed with the determination to protect our own freedom, the evidence of it is this military parade. Of course, in the ideal world it is the right that will born strength, but today’s world and our environment are far from being ideal. We have the strength of protecting our right and our freedom, the evidence is this military parade. The freedom and independence must be protected not only from external threats, our citizens must also be free since a free person and a free society act much more effective, we can and we must continue building effective state which will protect the free citizen and free society. Not free people can theoretically create a lot of things, but not happiness. Over the past 25 years we have recorded irreversible achievements, sometimes we made mistakes, sometimes we have appeared in extremes, but by and large we have moved forward on a right path. We are building our happiness in a peaceful and creative way, and our moving forward formula is very simple: work, work and work. We must multiple our achievements through our work and protect them with our strength”, the President said, “Armenpress” reported.

On September 21 Armenia is marking the 25th anniversary of its Independence. The Armenian people said a resolute “yes” to independence by means of a referendum 25 years ago. The majority of the Armenian population of age answered positively to the question “Do you agree that the Republic of Armenia becomes a democratic independent state outside the USSR?”. Two days later, September 23 the Supreme Council of Armenia declared it an independent, autonomous state.
