YEREVAN, JULY 18, ARMENPRESS. Director of the International Secretariat of the ArmenianRevolutionary Federation Bureau Giro Manoyan says the gunmen’s actions will have a negative impact on Armenia’s foreign relations. He said the extent of the impact will depend on the resolution of the existing situation. “We have already announced that such kind of changes in the country are unacceptable for the party. In terms of the foreign policy, this only has and will continue to have negative impact on the country, but we still do not know how it will end. If it ends in more losses, it will have more negative impact on the country’s foreign relations”, “Armenpress” reports, he said.
He said there is dissatisfaction among the public, but this doesn’t justify the violent actions. “The public’s reaction shows that they do not share such approach to solve the issue in this way. On the other hand, the public should be organized in general in order to have an impact to implement changes in the country, in order for people not to think about taking such extremist measures”, Giro Manoyan said.
In the morning of July 17 gunmen stormed a Police HQ in Yerevan and took hostages – demanding the release of Zhirayr Sefilyan, who was imprisoned a month ago, charged with illegal possession, transportation and acquirement of weapons and ammunition.
Police Colonel Artur Vanoyan has been killed by the gunmen during the ambush.
