Thousands of Armenians held protest in front of Turkish Consulate in Los Angeles

YEREVAN, APRIL 25, ARMENPRESS. Tens of thousands protesters held a big rally in front of Turkish Consulate in Los Angeles on April 24 keeping in their hands the Armenian flags and signscommemorating the 101st anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, “Armenpress” reports, Los Angeles Times journal informs about this.

Los Angeles police estimated the crowd at 60,000 who demanded justice and repatriation. The protesters chanted: “Get your hands off our land!” “Eastern Turkey is western Armenia!”

U.S. Representative Adam Schiff addressed the crowd from the stage stating: “Today, we are all Armenian. We have one cause and that cause is justice”.

The crowd, filled with protesters of all ages, roared in agreement. Some carried their children on their shoulders, using the day to teach them about their history. “We want to show the youth what April 24 is about. Obviously, we want justice. If we don't do this, it will be forgotten”, 42 year old Abraham Arakelian said.

Anasheh Megerdichian stood with a group of friends near the Turkish Consulate said. “We’re not asking for much. We want them to admit what they did.” Megerdichian said she wasn’t surprised that Obama did not use the word genocide, but she was disappointed. “He went back on his word”, Megerdichian said.
