YEREVAN, JANUARY 18, ARMENPRESS. Continuative depreciation of Georgian lari complicated the social situation in Georgia. Reduction oflari also made its impact on Armenian community in Georgia. Expert in Georgian studies Johnny Melikyan told about this during the meeting with journalists on January 18.
“Still at the end of 2014 Georgian currency lari depreciated up to 34% over a year. The reduction is still going on, which directly affects the citizens of Georgia, as well as the Armenian community. Rather serious problems occurred in the banking system over several years,” expert in Georgian studies told, as “Armenpress” reports.
According to Melikyan, approximately each Georgian family has 1-2 credits taken from banks. The number of such families in Georgia reaches 1.5 million. Banks provide loans by mainly US dollars and after the depreciation of lari it becomes a serious burden for citizens.
“Problems are different in terms of finances in Armenian communities. If we take Javakhk, for example, the majority of families have financial inflows from Russia there,” expert in Georgian studies said adding that crisis of Russian economy and the depreciation of Russian ruble has a significant impact on the social condition of Armenians in Javakhk.
