Emir Kusturica considers his Yerevan concert as a contribution in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Genocide

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 25, ARMENPRESS. President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received world famous Serbian filmmaker, actor andmusician on December 25.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the Department of Public Relations and Mass Media of Republic of Armenia President’s Staff, at the beginning of the meeting the prominent intellectual presented the President of the Republic with the collection of his poems published this year and headlined “Hundred of Troubles”. Emir Kusturica mentioned that the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide was an emotional moment for all those who are acquainted with the Armenian history, and also for the peoples who have faced such tragedies. The famous musician considered the concert that is to be given this evening in Yerevan as a small contribution by him and his team in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Genocide, which, in his words, symbolizes the hope to a better future.

President Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the famous film director, mentioning that his visit is undoubtedly an important event in the cultural life of our country, and the Armenian people accept Emir Kusturica with deep warmth and his culture professing universal values. In the words of the President, the similarity of the fates of the Armenian and Serb people makes Emir Kusturica’s cinematography more close to Armenian art-lovers’ hearts.

Serzh Sargsyan mentioned that he recalls his previous meeting with the world-famous film director back in 2010 and will always be glad to host him in our country. The President thanked the renowned intellectual for his accented respectful attitude towards the Armenian people, its history and culture and also for the initiative of the memorial concert planned for this evening in Yerevan.
