Ban Ki-moon: Sargsyan-Aliyev meeting will bring the NKR peace process closer

YEREVAN,DECEMBER 23, ARMENPRESS. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon expressed hope that the last meeting between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan will bring the countries closer to peaceful resolution of NKR conflict, “Armenpress” reports citing RIA Novosti.

Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan held the first talks in a year in Berne on December 19. "The secretary general believes that the summit gave both sides the opportunity to discuss practical steps to reduce violations of the ceasefire regime and the number of civilian casualties, and to develop ways to bring the peace process," - the statement of the head of the world organization reads. Ban Ki-moon also noted the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group, who organized the summit in Switzerland. He called on Baku and Yerevan parties to cooperate closely with the Minsk Group on further de-escalation of the situation and to refrain from actions that could lead to new violence.
