Gabriel Ghazaryan considers the sporting year for Armenia as successful

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS. Minister ofSportand Youth Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Gabriel Ghazaryan considers year 2015 as successful for sport activities, mentioning that the country has recorded a number of achievements. “Armenpress” reports that Minister mentioned about this in the final press-conference of the year, adding that the main assessment will be given by the public.

Referring to the works done, the Minister mentioned that the Government has financed numerous sport schools to receive necessary accommodations, and the project will be continued in 2016.

Speaking about the cooperation with federations, the Minister said that a close partnership has been formed and there is a significant progress in the activities of the federations. At the same time he mentioned that the funds allocated to the federations will not change in the coming year despite the fact that the Government has added the funds of a number of projects initiated by the Ministry.

Gabriel Ghazaryan considers the half-marathon organized in Yerevan among the achievements which will also be continuous. The Minister promised to correct the gaps made during the half-marathon and turn the event into a marathon.

In 2015 Armenian sportsmen have won 138 medals in world and Europe championships. Among the medals, 37 are gold, 45-silver and 56-bronze. Arthur Alexanyan became world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, Tigran Martirosyan became Europe’s champion in weightlifting.
