YEREVAN, DECEMBER 21, ARMENPRESS. It was what was expected. Results actually were not registered. Head of the 'European Integration'NGO,political analyst Manvel Ghumashyan expressed such an opinion during the press conference in “Armenpress”, referring to the meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Berlin.
“It can be pointed out from the meeting that all the sides, except Azerbaijan, once again stressed that there is no alternative to the peaceful resolution of Karabakh conflict,” Manvel Ghumashyan said. The fact that Azerbaijan kept hot the border tensions before the meeting of the Presidents and immediately after that is connected with the consequence that the situation around the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has changed. It is not what it was a year and a half ago. It t is connected with regional problems and Azerbaijani internal and foreign issues. In particular, the aggravation of Russian-Turkish relations, which will impact on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as Turkey will take steps to put Russia in a worse situation. Manvel Ghumashyan considers not accidental Turkish prime minister's visit to Azerbaijan and their statements after the aggravation of Russian-Turkish relations. Besides, there are serious internal problems and, according to the expert, Azerbaijan tenses the situation on the border for restraining the internal created situation.
“Azerbaijan has no other way than bringing forward some cards and it is tensing the border situation trying to haggle. We see that the European institutions and countries are changing their attitude towards Azerbaijan; reports are published with the emphasis of criticizing Azerbaijan. It is not excluded that Baku will highlight a prerequisite of reducing criticism against it by easing tension at the border,” Manvel Ghumashyan added. Referring to the remark that the Co-chairs’ statement was directed to the both sides and not to Azerbaijan, which tenses the situation, Manvel Ghumashyan mentioned that one of the function of the Co-chairs is always to bring the sides to negotiations.
