Serj Tankian celebrates 48th anniversary

YEREVAN, AUGUST 21, ARMENPRESS. Armenian- American songwriter, lead vocalist of the metal band System of a Down, Serj Tankian celebrates his 48th anniversary on August 21. Tankian was named one of the 26 best metal vocalists of the world. He recorded 5 albums with the rock band “System of A Down” and two solo albums “Elect The Dead” and “Imperfect Harmonies”.

Tankian was born to Armenian parents in Beirut, Lebanon on August 21, 1967. At age five, he moved with his parents to Los Angeles, California. In his youth, he attended bilingual Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School, which was also attended by Tankian's future System of a Down bandmates Daron Malakian and Shavo Odadjian. Tankian was accepted into California State University, Northridge. This is where Tankian first began to play instruments and write songs. Serj has his own recording studio called “Serjical Strike”. “I am the most illiterate musician. I did not study rock, even did not take piano classes. Komitas music school can be like the Juilliard School, for foreigners to come to Armenia and study, When I started practicing music, it was not an option for me. I was 15-20 and concluded that it was my path.”, said the rock musician.

On April 23, 2015, System of a Down gave a brilliant concert at the Republic Square, Armenia in the framework of the tour “Wake Up the Souls” aimed at raising awareness about the Armenian Genocide. The square and the nearby streets were packed with people and the concert went on in heavy rain.
