Woman makes suicide attempt in front of Aliyev's presidential residence

YEREVAN, AUGUST 17, ARMENPRESS. A woman who came to a reception of the Staff of the Azerbaijan President, poured petrol on herself and tried to set herself on fire.

Armenpress reports, referring to Azerbaijani service of “Azatutyun” radio, the people near her were able to prevent the woman’s actions.

According to the witnesses, the woman tried to complain about a court decision, but was not able to voice the complaint in appropriate institutions. The latter forced her to take such a hopeless step. The woman, who lost her consciousness, was taken to hospital.

It is the 10th case of self-immolation in Azerbaijan 2015, 5 of which had fatal outcomes.

123 suicide acts have occurred in Azerbaijan since the beginning of 2015.

The Azerbaijani authorities release no official statistics on suicide acts but according to Azerbaijani media, 240 suicide acts occurred in Azerbaijan since 2014, 16 of which were under legal age. 13 citizens made self-immolation in 2014, 7 of which were disabled in Karabakh war.
