YEREVAN, AUGUST 6, ARMENPRESS. Grigor Kyokchyan will represent Armenia in the international song contest “New Wave”. The latter has positive attitude toward the contest. He says that his participation in the contest was accidental: He would not have left for Moscow (Kyokchyan had left for Moscow as Mary’s producer) to participate in the semi-final, if not Mary Kocharyan, the representative of Armenia in ”New Wave Junior 2015”. Armenpress had an interview with Grigor Kyokchyan.
When I was told that I would represent Armenia, I got surprised…
Armenian participants of the Voice Russia had been invited to represent Armenia and I was sure that they would be chosen. I was late for my performance but they gave me a chance to perform. When they told me that I would represent Armenia, I got surprised because I had left for Moscow with Mary as a record producer.
Preparations for the contest
We are well preparing for the contest both in terms of music and creativity. It will be in Sochi, and more grand-scale.
The songs – already chosen
I will present Bonny M’s “Sunny “in a different manner. We have also prepared a song written by me called “Afro”. The music is composed by Martin Mirzoyan. World-class singers will perform at the contest; it is both pleasant and obliging. I am proud and excited.
On participating in the contest “The Global Sound”
The participation was accidental. I received an email saying that my song (“Let’s go dance”, Armenian –“Gnum enq parelu”) was chosen by the Australian jury, and asking if I would like to participate in the contest. In former contests of “The Global Sound” Bruno Mars, Sia and other famous artists became the winners. I know that my chance to win in the contest is not so great but I am still glad to participate in it.
New Wave is a contest for young performers of popular music which was founded by a Russian composer Igor Krutoy and by Latvian pianist and composer Raimonds Pauls in 2002 and later enhanced by a very famous Russian superstar Alla Pugacheva. Although meant to popularize new stars from all over Europe, the countries of the former USSR and USA, many present and former superstars play an important, if not the most important, role in it.
