More than 15 thousand terrorists killed in Iraq

YEREVAN, AUGUST 3, ARMENPRESS. The international coalition led by the USA has killed more than 15 thousand terrorists of the “Islamic State” in Iraq.

“Armenpress” reports citing international media agencies that the Ambassador of the US to Iraq StuartJones announced about this. According to him, over 3 thousand air flights were conducted against the IS.

The Ambassador did not mention precisely which regions blocked by the IS were intensively attacked. The IS controls 1/3 of the Iraqi territory. It operates in the territories of Syria and Iraq.

The organization “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” was formed by the merger of two branches of “Al-Qaeda” in 2013 which aimed to establish an Islamic caliphate on the territories of Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. On July 29 of 2014 the ISIL declared about the establishment of the Islamic Caliphate on the territories annexed from Syria and Iraq the caliph of which became Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Later a decision was made to rename the organization “Islamic State”. The IS has fighters from 80 countries.
