Belgian Chamber of Representatives adopts resolution on Armenian Genocide

YEREVAN, JULY 24, ARMENPRESS. The Belgian Chamber of Representatives voted for the resolution on the Armenian Genocide. 124 members of the Chamber of Representatives voted for the resolution and 8 of them remained neutral.

Armenpress reports the abovementioned citing the official website of the Armenian Cause foundation of Belgium. There were no speeches of denial at the plenary session of the Chamber of Representatives which took place on July 22. All the speakers acknowledged that what happened to the Armenians at the beginning of the 20th century was genocide.

The draft resolution on the centenary of the Armenian Genocide was submitted by MP Peter De Roover, who calls on Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide and to reconcile the Armenians and Turks “in hopes of bright universal future”.

In 1998 the Parliament of Belgium Recognized the Armenian Genocide on the level of the upper house (Senate).
