What happened to Armenians and Christian communities in Ottoman Empire is characterized by word genocide. Aram I

ANTELIAS, JULY 9, ARMENPRESS. What happened to Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians and other Christian communities in the Ottoman Empire in 1915 was genocide in the real sense of the word. The Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I mentioned this during his speech in the international symposium dedicated to the genocide of Assyrians in the Kaslik University ff Lebanon.

“It was a genocide having its aim and methods even if the word genocide was not still included in the international vocabulary. The history clearly shows that what was planed, organized and implemented by the Ottoman Government was genocide”, as reports “Armenpress”, said AramI.

He noted that, according to the international law, when a government changes in a given country for a given nation, it proceeds the government that existed previously even in case of difference in ideological and political agenda and aims. AramIclarified that it can be deduced from this legal-political principle that Turkey is the successor of the Ottoman Empire. Hence, it has inherited the rights and responsibilities of the government of 1915. “This means that today’s Turkey has its duties for the Genocide conducted in 1915”, stressed the Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia.
