LYON, JUNE 17, ARMENPRESS. A lecture dedicated to Gregory of Narek took place in Saint Hakob Church in Lyon. Not only the local Armenians took part in it but also a number of foreigners. This is the fourth lecture of this kind through which Armenian spiritual values, medieval literature and art are introduced to the French. Zaven Yekavyan delivered the lectures.
In an interview with Armenpress Zaven Yekavyan said that the aim of the lectures is that not only the 5th generation of French-Armenians but also the French get familiar with the Armenian Church and the rich cultural heritage that were passed from generation to generation. Yekavyan highlights that the place of the lectures is also highly important as Lyon is the French city where Gregory of Narek was first published in French. He also stresses that interest towards Gregory of Narek increased especially after the holly mass which took place in Vatican City in April.
Pope Francis served a Holy Mass dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide at St. Peter’s Basilica of Vatican on April 12. This historic event was attended by the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia, as well as Patriarch Nerses Bedros XIX of the Armenian Catholics.
