Ankara threatens to return EP’s report urging Turkey to recognize Armenian Genocide

STRASBOURG, JUNE 11, ARMENPRESS. The European Parliament accepted the 2014 report on Turkey’s progress during the plenary session of June 10. EP again urged in that report the government of that country to recognize the Armenian Genocide. Official Ankara threatens to return it without opening.

As Armenpress reports citing Hurriyet Daily News,Volkan Bozkır – Turkey’s Minister for European Union Affairs – called the report inacceptable and announced that they would send it back without opening.

The Turkish minister stated as though “European Parliament’s Resolution on the Events of 1915” was added in the report on Turkey’s progress on the last minute. He said, “Because of this reference, we find this report unacceptable. It will be returned to EP by our Permanent Rep to the EU in Brussels,” Bozkır stated, adding that Turkey “never accepted and will never accept that the events of 1915 be named as genocide.”
