Suggestion of construction “New Aleppo” district made by Syrian-Armenians. Diaspora’s Minister explains

YEREVAN, 01 JUNE, ARMENPRESS. The construction of “New Aleppo" district was the request of the Syrian-Armenians. 620 Syrian-Armenians had sent a letter to the Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia, proposing to have a district in Armenia. It was not a project of the Government. The Government of the Republic of Armenia directly helped Syrian-Armenians to fulfill the desire of having a district in Armenia. The Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia Hranush Hakobyan stated this during the discussion of the State Budget Execution Report of 2014, responding to the question of ANC faction secretary Aram Manukyan, that why the project of "New Aleppo" construction is failed. "They asked and wrote us that they are ready to invest $ 20-30 thousand to have a district in Armenia, which will solve the housing problems. They also wanted to live together in the same district. In the first year, they came and made a suggestion, as proposed by the Syrian curriculum to establish a Syrian school. We have created that school, because it is much easier than building a district," as Armenpress reports, the Minister highlighted.

The Government is gone ahead and made a decision on the request of the Syrian-Armenians to build "New Aleppo" district. "The Municipality of Ashtarak also allocated an area for the construction of the district. The design and survey works carried out. Now if those people do not want to solve their housing problems, we're not going to force them to come and build that district. Our state does not have any sufficient funds to build a new district,” Hakobyan underlined.
