YEREVAN, 20 MAY, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian Genocide is the reminder of the risks of not learning lessons from the past, the dangers caused by denial of genocides and the long-term damages caused by the impunity of the organizers of genocides. These are the factors that will contribute to further perpetration of genocides. As “Armenpress” reports, this is whatProfessor at the Royal Military College of Canada and political scientist Alan Whitehornmentioned in his book devoted to awareness and prevention of genocides. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia has disseminated a special handbook containing the evaluations and commentaries that foreign scholars have given in regard to the Armenian Genocide. The handbook includes Whithorn’s commentary on the Armenian Genocide.
“Recognition of past genocides, as in the case of the Armenian Genocide, can become the key to understanding and preventing future genocides. The Armenian massacre was pivotal for the emergence of two major concepts in human rights, including “crime against humanity” and “genocide”. The Armenian Genocide of 1915 became a major precedent for future genocides like the Holocaust,”wrote Alan Whitehorn.
