Aleppo-Armenians hold several events commemorating the ArmenianGenocide Centennial

YEREVAN, 28 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. Despite the dire conditions in Aleppo, the Armenians of Aleppo respected the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide in a dignified manner, as posted on the official website of the Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee of Syria, according to “Armenpress”. On April 24, the day marking the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, the unions and community of Aleppo held a major commemorative ceremony, which was attended by leaders of Syrian-Armenian communities, Consul General of Armenia in Aleppo Tigran Gevorgyan, members of Syrian-Armenian organizations and large crowds of people.

The event began with opening remarks by Artel Chirishian in Arabic. Chirishian reflected on the human, cultural and material damages that the Armenian Genocide caused and the fact that the indigenous Armenians of the Ottoman Empire were deported from their ancestral lands.

The speech was followed by performances of songs by Zvartnots Choir, followed by poetry devoted to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
