YEREVAN, 23 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. One hundred years ago, the Armenians were martyred and accepted martyrdom for the sake of Christ. This was the greatest manifestation of faith, which all mankind should respect.
This is what Cardinal Kurt Koch of the Vatican said. As “Armenpress” reports, during the “Against the Crime of Genocide” global forum in Yerevan, the Cardinal emphasized that he knew about the history of the Armenian people and knew that there is no Armenian who hasn’t lost a relative during that tragedy.
“You are very close to my heart. Your Christian identity traces back to ancient times. Gregory the Illuminator led Armenia through the path to conversion and baptism. You became a reason for many nations to adopt Christianity. Armenian culture and faith are like martyrdom,” the Cardinal mentioned, adding that history has shown the courage of the Armenian people who have managed to preserve their identity and survive the Armenian Genocide with the help of faith.
