YEREVAN, 21 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. U.S. President Barack Obama’s April 24thaddress will be very different from the previous ones. This is whathistorian, UCLA Professor Richard Hovannisiansaid in an interview with “Armenpress”, adding that even though the Pentagon and the Department of State are pressuring Obama, he will be determined and will use the word “genocide” to describe the events that took place in the Ottoman Empire in the early 20thcentury.

According to Hovannisian, Americans have trouble understanding why Obama has been using the expression “Mets Yeghern” instead of the term “genocide” every April 24thfor several years now.

“The problem is that Americans view the expression “Mets Yeghern” not as a great crime, but a great tragedy. Therefore, the Armenian side must make efforts to make sure American society understands the gravity of the issue,”he mentioned.
