Uruguayan House of Representatives holds special session in memory of Armenian Genocide centennial

MONTEVIDEO, APRIL 16, ARMENPRESS: The special session, devoted to the 100thanniversary of the Armenian Genocide, completed at the House of Representatives of Uruguay. The representative of the Armenian National Committeeof Uruguay told Armenpress that the special session had lasted for quite a long time, as all the parties were present and many deputies wanted to deliver speeches.
In her speech, the Vice President of the House of Representatives of Uruguay Susana Pereira highlighted the preservation of the memory of the Armenian people. She spoke about the friendship of the Armenian and Uruguayan nations, stressing that the local Armenian community has had a considerable contribution in the formation of this friendship. Pereira told also about her observer’s mission during the elections in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.
Another representative, Jorge Guyakchian told about his Armenian origin, stating that his mother, who was only 8 years old at the time of the Genocide, survived from the Turks, hiding in one of the caves in the desert. Though thousands of children on the way of migration did not manage to do so.
