From naming a square of Damascus to conference. Events in Syria

YEREVAN, 8 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. In spite of the heavy wartime situation, a rank of events will be held in the Capital of Syria-Damascus dedicated to the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide.

The Primate of Damascus diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, His Grace Bishop Armash Nalbantyan in a talk with “Armenpress” informed, that besides the events of community, activities are underway to raise the issue at the state level and reach to the recognition.

“I can talk about the activities of Damascus. The Syrian central body of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide is created, which works closely with the central body of 100th anniversary. First of all, on 6 January we held the launch the commemoration ceremonies, applications are presented and a lot of works were done over the state and political recognition of the Armenian Genocide. We participated in some hearing at the Syrian Parliament, as a result of which on March 17, the Syrian parliament by a minute of silence respected the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims and issued a statement. The actions are taken to receive admission of the Armenian Genocide at the same state high level and maintain its condemnation, hoping that by this form the teaching the Armenian Genocide will be implemented in the Syrian educational programs. If it is condemned and the new generation knows about the crime, such tragedies and human murders will not be repeated", Bishop Armash stressed.
