NICOSIA, 2 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. The passage by the Parliament of Cyprus of the draft law criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide was a very important decision and noteworthy act that will partially console the souls of the 1.5 million innocent martyrs of the Armenian Genocide. As “Armenpress” reports, this is whatstate representative of the Armenian community of Cyprus, MP Vartkes Mahdessianannounced, mentioning:“I express my heartfelt gratitude to my colleagues in parliament for this noteworthy act with the hope that this decision will partially console the souls of our 1.5 million brothers and sisters, those who died for our faith and nation.”

Based on the results of an April 2 voting, the Parliament of Cyprus unanimously passed the draft law criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide. Those who deny the Armenian Genocide will be punished with five years of imprisonment and a 10,000 Euro fine. Cyprus is the fourth country in Europe to criminalize the denial of the Armenian Genocide after Greece, Slovakia and Switzerland.
