YEREVAN, 21 MARCH, ARMENPRESS. Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic of Armenia, coordinator for the events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide Vigen Sargsyan referred to President of Turkey Recep TayyibErdoğan'sdemand to the Armenian Diaspora as “a sign of disrespect” and “cynicism”.As “Armenpress” reports, citingarmeniangenocide100.org, this is what the chief of staff said during the “Hartsazruyts” (Interview) program on Armenian Public Television, commenting onErdoğan’s demand to the Armenian Diaspora to submitdocuments proving the Armenian Genocide.
“I don’t know what kinds of documents PresidentErdoğanis expecting from the ArmenianDiaspora, but I believe PresidentErdoğanis quite informed about the historicevents and the large amount of documents that are kept in Turkey’s archives, or in Armenia’s archives that even Turkish researchers and representatives of international centers have examined several times,” Sargsyan said on that occasion.
“I believe such a call is a sign of disrespect because it is at least cynical to demand proof of being a victim from the people who were eliminated as a result of the policy that you lead, and this has a negative impact on the days leading up to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. This goes to show how current the issue of commemoration of the Armenian Genocide is. It’s not just about the history. It’s about Turkey’s current policy that is reflected in the policy against Armenia in the form of a blockade and through similar manifestations. To say that there were victims, pretend to send a message on the 23rdof April last year and then demand documents simply goes to show how cynical that policy is and how false the statements are,” Vigen Sargsyan concluded.
