Play devoted to Zabel Yesayan to be presented in Turkey

YEREVAN, 5 MARCH, ARMENPRESS. The play devoted to Armenian writer, translator and publicist of Constantinople Zabel Yesayan will be held at the Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, as T24.com reports, according to “Armenpress”. The play is based on the bookThe Gardens of Silihdarand presents Yesayan’s childhood, her moments of joy, sadness, frustration, loneliness and freedom.

During the Adana Massacres of 1909, she joined a delegation and traveled to Adana, after which she portrayed the tragedy of the Armenians of Cilicia in the book “Among the Ruins”, as well as in the short stories entitled “The Curse” and “The New Bride”. In 1915, avoiding arrest and exile, she took shelter in Tbilisi and later in France. In 1926, Yesayan comes to Armenia and writes the book “Liberated Prometheus Unchained” based on her impressions. In 1933, she settles in Soviet Armenia and teaches French literature. In 1936, she is exiled to Siberia where she dies in unknown circumstances in 1943.
