Charles Aznavour talks about his parents and his past

YEREVAN, 16 FEBRUARY, ARMENPRESS. Legendary French-Armeniansinger Charles Aznavourhas many projects, dreams and is full of passion. The 90-year-old singer says it’s not time for him to go on pension yet, writes the FrenchLa Provence. La Provence’s correspondent sat down for an interview with the renowned artist, talked about his parents and his love for France and Armenia. As “Armenpress” reports, onlaprovence.comit is mentioned that Aznavour is one of the world’s most famous artists of Armenian descent, as well as a composer, singer, actor and author of several books.

In an interview with La Provence, Aznavour shared the story of how his parents traveled from Greece and reached France. He mentioned that his father had a Russian passport that helped him board an Italian ship and go to Thessaloniki along with all the refugees of that area.

“In the beginning, my father would earn money by singing for immigrants. He sang in Armenian, Russian and Hebrew. Of course, my parents didn’t force us to preserve Armenian traditions and didn’t even try to stop us from doing so,”he mentioned. Aznavour said his parents had Nansen passports and talked about the friendship with Manouchian.

“I got to know Armenia better when the country was facing difficulties. I once thought to myself-I have the potential and can do something for my homeland. People would tell me ‘Oh! You returned to your home’, and I would tell them ‘My country is France’,”the singer mentioned.
