YEREVAN, JANUARY 15, ARMENPRESS: The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Galust Sahakyan joins all the wishes to bring the accused in Gyumri murder to account in Armenia, though he states that the issue should be settled legally. Galust Sahakyan told the journalists in Gyumri that not always the wishes and legal procedures coincide.
“In this case we are all of the same opinion though the issue will be settled legally. Today as well we continue cooperating with the Russian side and make steps so that this procedure is conducted in a reliable atmosphere, which will heal a bit the pain of our people. I join the wishes to bringing the criminal to account in Armenia though not always the wishes and legal procedures coincide. That is why we should be able to cooperate with the Russian side efficiently and find solutions, which will satisfy us all”, - said Sahakyan, Armenpress reports.
Earlier it was reported that the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan stated during the talk with the journalists after the Government’s session that the trial of the crime, committed in Gyumri on January 12, should be conducted in Armenia with the cooperation of the Armenian and Russian legal bodies. He said that according to the international agreement, if the serviceman of the Russian military base or the member of his family commits crime outside the base territory, the case will be under the jurisdiction of the Armenian side. If the crime is committed in the serviceman’s dislocation area or it is a military crime, in that case the jurisdiction will belong to the Russian party.“In this case we have two kinds of crime: one is a severe crime connected with murders and the other one is under their jurisdiction: desertion and appearing outside the territory of the military base with a weapon. It means that we should have a bilateral cooperation of legal bodies to complete the trial in the both directions”, - said Kocharyan.
The serviceman of the Russian military base 102 Valery Permyakov, suspected in the assassination of the family of 6 in Armenia’s Gyumri, has given first testimonies and confessed his crime.
The Russian frontier troops arrested the suspect of the assassination in Armenia’s Gyumri, who attempted to cross the Armenian-Turkish border. The suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Bayandur village.
