GAVAR, 11 DECEMBER, ARMENPRESS. Resident of Yeranos village of Gegharkunik Province, 50-year old powerlifter Khachik Tumeyan has set a record that might seriously be included in the Guinness Book of Records. As the coach for the weightlifting team of villages in the Martuni territory of Gegharkunik Province, representative of the Armenian Arm-wrestling Federation in Gegharkunik Province, Khachik Tumeyan’s trainer Atom Mnatsakanyan reports to “ArmenPress”, on 29 November, powerlifter Khachik Tumeyan hauled 440 tons of five, 800 kg train wagons in a lying position at the railway station in Masis, exceeding the record of hauling 30 tons of wagons that he had set in October 2012. Based on the data approved by the head of the railway station in Masis, as well as based on the accounts of other athletes, trainers and eyewitnesses, when Tumeyan hauled the wagons, the first wagon moved forward 1 meter 54 centimeters, and the last wagon moved forward 1 meter and 40 centimeters. “This is an unreachable world record, and it exceeds the previous record by 110 tons. Moreover, the person who set the existing record, whose name I can’t remember at this moment, weighed 175 kilograms to haul 340 tons, while Khachik weighs only 72 kilograms and is 1 meter and 76 centimeters. This is truly incredible,” Atom Mnatsakanyan assured.
The first record that Khachik set was in 1997 when he hauled four train wagons weighing 376 tons and loaded with sandstones. That same year, he lifted 1,034 kilograms with his waist and in a tilted position. The second incredible record that the powerlifter from Yeranos set was in October 2012 when he hauled six train wagons weighing 411 tons.
