Akcam urges not to compare the victim and perpetrator of the genocide in Turkish textbooks

YEREVAN, 1 DECEMBER, ARMENPRESS. Turkish intellectual Taner Akcam, who has recognized the Armenian Genocide, has published a special article in which he reflects on the claims made in Turkish textbooks regarding the history in 1915 and states his views on the issue, reports the Turkish Taraf, according to “ArmenPress”.

Emphasizing the fact that very often attempts are made to compare the two sides and their actions, Akcam says this is a wrong approach. “First, what is the meaning of the thesis “responsibility of nationalists from both sides”? I can’t say that I understand it. I understand the Turks’ nationalism. It’s clear that it refers to the “Ittihat ve Terakki” political party, but who are the Armenian nationalists and what are they to blame for? What did they do in 1915 to become guilty and responsible for the genocide like the Turks? What shouldn’t they have done?” writes Akcam, mentioning that we can’t talk about Armenian nationalists when discussing this issue, much less their responsibility.
