President of Armenia receives Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS: President Serzh Sargsyan received today a delegation headed by Council of Europe CommissionerforHuman Rights Nils Muižnieks, President’s Press Office informed Armenpress. The President welcomed the guests and underscored that Armenia attaches high importance to cooperation with the Council of Europe and its support to the consistent reforms implemented in our country. In that issue Serzh Sargsyan pointed out the great role of the Institute of the Council of Europe Commissioner.

Nils Muižnieks noted that in Armenia they want to focus on reforms in the judicial field, women and men equality, as well as on issues on the fight against violence. Council of Europe Commissioner stressed he is happy for the information that Armenia has registered progress in those spheres.

During the meeting the interlocutors referred to the process of constitutional reforms in Armenia, to the process of fulfillment of the commitments Armenia has assumed after joining the Council of Europe. Serzh Sargsyan said that in the recent years reforms have been carried out in Armenia in the direction of enhancing the principles on democracy, human rights defense and legal statehood and those reforms are continued today as well. Armenia has made a serious progress in fulfillment of the assumed commitments thanks to the support of the Council of Europe, and the results are tangible and irreversible.
