YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 10, ARMENPRESS: ARF's Hay Tad committee of Greece considers the adoption of the genocide denial criminalizing bill at the Greek Parliament to be the right and fair step. “The ARF's Hay Tad committee of Greece participated in the discussions and hearings of the bill presenting the position of the Armenians. The ARF's Hay Tad committee doubled its efforts meeting with the parliamentarians, as well as cooperating with the organizations of Pontus and Asia Minor countries, emphasizing that ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the adoption of the genocide denial criminalizing bill is the right and fair step by the Greek Parliament and the State. This is an important historical and political bill, which, we hope, will become an example for other European states”, - ARF's Hay Tad committee of Greece stated after the adoption of the bill.

The Parliament of Greece adopted the genocide denial criminalizing bill on September 9 with 54 votes for, 42 against and 3 neutral. The amended version of the bill entitled “Fight against xenophobia” envisages bringing to criminal account for denial of the genocides of not only Jews, but also Armenians and Pontus Greeks. The bill provides for big money fines and imprisonment for the people, who will publicly humiliate and deny the genocides and the crimes committed against humanity recognized by the Greek Parliament and international courts. So Greece is the third EU member state after Switzerland and Slovakia that will criminalize the Armenian Genocide denial.
