Spiritual leader of Aleppo's Armenian Catholics briefs Pope Francis on Armenian community's issues

YEREVAN, AUGUST 20, ARMENPRESS. The Archbishop of the Armenian Catholics of Aleppo Boutros Marayati expressed his concerns about the recent actions taken by “The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” to Pope Francis. As reports “Armenpress”, the Archbishop of the Armenian Catholics of Aleppo Boutros Marayati stated this in a conversation with the Italian La Stampa.

The Archbishop stated that he is concerned that the Armenians will be the next target of the Islamists after the Yazidis and Christians of Iraq. Also, he noted that the Armenians, who have been living in Aleppo for over 500 years, have already appeared in an awkward situation. Boutros Marayati said that some part of the Armenians of Aleppo migrated to the city from Cilicia due to the Armenian Genocide of 1915.
