“Raise your voice, not the sea level” – June 5 is Environmentalist Day

YEREVAN, JUNE 4, ARMENPRESS. The global problems facing all the countries are: climate change, biodiversity loss and desertification or land degradation. World Environment Day 2014 slogan is "Raise your voice, not the sea level”. During a press conference this was said by the Deputy Head of the Bioresources Management Agency of the Ministry of Nature Protection of the Republic of Armenia, Ashot Vardevanyan. "Speaking about climate change, I should note that it does not change by itself, there is a big human impact here. The impact of human activity is so great that self-recreation is impossible" – as reports "Armenpress", said the official.

Numerous projects are being implemented in Armenia for the solution of the above-mentioned problems. "Now the national report on the implementation of the UN Convention on Combat Desertification is being worked out, as well as the national report on biodiversity" - said Ashot Vardevanyan

World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Over the years it has grown to be a broad, global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated by stakeholders in over 100 countries. It also serves as the ‘people’s day’ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanizing individual actions into a collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet.

World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.
