Erdoğan appeared in awkward situation: Turkologist

YEREVAN, JANUARY 15, ARMENPRESS. Turkologist Artak Shakaryan finds that there is no alternative to Erdoğan‘s Justice and Development Party for Armenia, as the Kemalists and extremists are more sympathetic towards Azerbaijan and have more anti-Armenian tendencies. In a conversation with “Armenpress” News Agency Artak Shakaryan highlighted that generally the issue of the Armenian-Turkish relations is not included in Turkey’s agenda. Currently the neighboring country has to face with other significant issues and the Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appeared in an awkward situation.

Among other things Artak Shakaryan underscored: “Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spent the last 5 year preparing for the presidential elections scheduled to be held in August and Turkey’s current situation is troublesome for both Erdoğan and his party. The most drastic issue Erdoğan has to face with now is that he cannot occupy the same position for more than three times. Hence, the sole way to continue his political career is to become a President. Notwithstanding, in accordance with Turkish Constitution the President cannot be a member of any party.” (THE FULL VERSION OF THE ARTICLE IS AVAILABLE IN ARMENIAN)
