Historian predicts trends of internal instability in Azerbaijan for coming years

YEREVAN, JUNE 15, ARMENPRESS: In result of influence of western forces Aliyev clan in Azerbaijan can weaken in future. Such opinion expressed historian, lecturer of Yerevan State University Gevorg Melkonyan during press conference on June 15. “In Azerbaijan national minorities have great amount and it is not excluded that due to support of western countries they begin to implement steps directed to instability inside the country,” he said, reports “Armenpress”.

According to him Western world can not tolerate for a long time dictatorship regimes. “Kadafi, Mubarack came to power with the help of western world but because of them very quickly lost their power,” he said. Melkonyan mentioned that the same can happen with Aliyev clan as western forces and capitalists making investments in Azerbaijan will want ot see changes there. In such case the only right step for Aliyev to keep his authority to make democratic reforms.

In Gevorg Melkonyan’s opinion if liberals come to power in Azerbaijan with the help of western world it can weaken the position of Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict solution process. Armenia must be ready to any changes in the region and challenges coming from it.

Azerbaijani presidential elections will take place in October. From ruling party for the third time has been nominated acting president Ilham Aliyev.
