YEREVAN, OCTOBER 29, ARMENPRESS. The events in the region are interconnected. The intensification in the neighboring countries reflects on Armenia. An "Armenpress" reporter had an interview regarding the latest developments of Russian-Turkish relations, Syrian crisis and the regulation of the NKR conflict with the Director of the Institute of the CIS countries Konstantin Zatulin.
- What developments do You notice in the region and the regulation of Nagorno Karabakh impact in particular?
- I am very anxious about the situation in the region. And it is mainly due to the conversations about the possible assault against Iran. I would not like the Azerbaijani authorities not to be so much seduced with the seeming privileges they might gain from their participation in the possible raid against Iran. It is noteworthy that Azerbaijani authorities are already engaged in a wide partnership with Israel and not in the military sphere alone, but in the issues regarding special services as well, which can cause palpable problems in the Iranian and Azerbaijani relations. In my opinion Azerbaijan can decide that they might be rewarded for the participation in the campaign against Iran and that reward can be the change of the American position for the regulation of the Nagorno Karabakh impact, for instance.
It seems to me that these hopes are groundless; notwithstanding the fact that Azerbaijan took the bait in its antiiranian activity is telling us about its interest for some reward for that. But is it profitable for Azerbaijan to throw stones from a house made up from glass?
- What results may have the recognition of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic by the Australian State of New Wales? And can that circumstance be an example for other countries as well?
- This fact is to certify that Australia is well deposed towards Armenia. It cannot have direct legal consequences in the international community. It can be an example for other countries, but the matter is not about the recognition of Nagorno Karabakh in the level of a country like Vanuatu. The ability to find the solution of the conflict is of a certain importance for us all. (THE FULL VERSION OF THE INTERVIEW IS AVAILABLE IN ARMENIAN)
