The Father and son Azaryans are proud of Olympic champion title

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 16, ARMENPRESS: Azaryan family is a unique in world sport history: the family has got two Olympic champions. Gymnasts Albert and Edward Azaryan have interesting, unique and exclusive sport "biography". Armenpress begins a series of interviews, which aims to reveal to the readers "fathers and sons" successful biographies , their "dialogue", life experience and profession "inherently" transmitted.

-Do your parents have impact on the choice of your profession?

-(Father Azaryan) It all started when I was a student at dysentery. In real I chose my profession by myself. My father was dead, and mummy did not mind it. When I started to go in for gymnastics at the same time I entered a technical school.

-(Son Azaryan) In my case everything was vice versa. The moment I opened my eyes I was "in gymnastics". From my early childhood I was with my parents, no matter they were in sport grounds , competitions. At 6 age I began to go in for professional sports. Besides deeply engaged in professional gymnastics I entered and graduated Yerevan State University, Faculty of Law.

-Does senior Azaryan influenced on Azaryan's gymnastics?

-(Father Azaryan)Initially it was me who was training Edward, later on my friend Vardges trained him by my instruction. We were caring no efforts Edward to become a good athlete. We were strict and were demanding much. Finally we reached the expected result, Edward became the Olympic champion.

-(Son Azaryan) My father has a great contribution in what I am possessing currently. I have always wanted to be alike him. He has always been next to me with his accumulated experience and advice. Even his presence in the sport grounds was a great help for me.

-Did you wish your children to continue your unfinished works?

-(Father Azaryan) I have two sons and two daughters. None of them continued my work. Daughters are engaged in artistic gymnastics, yet with no obvious results. It was only the youngest, Edward who wished to go on my profession.

- (Son Azaryan) There was great desire yet my son was reluctant to continue my path. He chose a different path.

-Azaryan family is the one in the history of gymnastics that possesses two Olympic champions,are you proud of it?

-My wife is also Soviet Union Olympic champion in gymnastics, it is also a pecularity. Definitely -Olympic champion title is a great honor and a matter of proud for me.

-(Son Azaryan)Yes we are too proud. Our family is the one that has got two Olympic champion titles.
