UN Security Council did not extend the international observation mission mandate in Syria

Yerevan, August 16, ARMENPRESS: The UN Security Council made a decision not to extend the international observation mission mandate in Syria. As “Armenpress” reports citing BBC, the United Nations Permanent Representative of France Gerard Araud informed about this: “The conditions to continue the UN observers work are not fulfilled”, Araud noted. To his word the UN Security Council has supported the calls for the UN representatives to continue their work in the Syrian capital Damascus.

The international observation mission was sent to Syria in April. The UN Security Council temporarily extended the observers mandate in Syria by 30 days. It was found out at the end of July that the number of the observers in that country was doubly reduced reaching 150.
